PRESS: Russia’s Yandex to open source code of database mgmt system

MOSCOW, Jun 15 (PRIME) -- Russian Internet giant Yandex will disclose a source code of ClickHouse, a system storing and analyzing big volumes of information for analytical reports, which can be used in telecommunications, advertising, e-commerce and information security, business daily Kommersant reported Wednesday.

The system is scaled and keeps records on trillions of events, including activities on Web sites, search requests or advertisements. It was checked by overloaded Web sites of Yandex, the company said. Russian Post is already interested in it to compile online reports.

Alexei Milovidov, head of the group of the ClickHouse development, said the disclosure of the source code is “one of the most important contributions to open-source in the company’s history.”

“The use of the technology in the industries, in which Yandex is not involved, helps us to wide a broader look at its potential,” Milovidov said, referring to a successful experience of using ClickHouse in a joint project with the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).
